UReach is a revolutionary program for high school
students that was created, developed, and implemented by Childreach International USA and UCAN, a prominent
social service agency in Chicago. The program is a mentoring scheme that pairs Chicago high school
students with current university and graduate students in the area. Over the course of a full year, the
mentor-student pairs will not only have weekly contact hours, but they will also attend a number of seminars
focusing on personal and professional development, academic achievement, global issues, and traveling
abroad. Many of these seminars are also open to other students and anyone in the community who wishes
to attend. In addition to one-on-one time and group seminars, UReach participants will be responsible
for raising awareness of global issues in their community by putting on a fundraiser to support Childreach
International USA projects abroad! The program culminates with a two week long service-immersion
project abroad, where UReach participants will assist in renovating a school in a rural village of the
Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania!
OUR MISSION
UReach aims to achieve the following
goals:
To provide an opportunity for youth to acquire and develop key skills
required by higher education and professional institutions;
To build and nurture self-esteem and a sense of personal
achievement;
To enable international travel and participation in a cultural exchange
while volunteering as a global citizen.
